At the end of May, the stag beetle season begins here in the Rhine Forest. On warm evenings, the males swarm out to find females. They like to be found on old oak trees, whose sap they drink. Many stag beetles fall victim to birds during the night and often only the head and neck can be found the next morning. From the beginning of July, they are seen less and less, with only a few females still wandering around.
